About the project
BFL is an innovative funding initiative that aims to provide a sustained flow of finance to maintain the country’s protected areas and biological corridors for perpetuity. The project will provide funding to prevent threats to Bhutan’s forests, preserving their role as a carbon sink and also support adaptation measures to improve the resilience of rural Bhutanese communities, threatened by the impacts of climate change. The fund will be used to strengthen enforcement and management of protected areas, diversify eco-tourism activities and products in other areas of the country. Activities under the programme will increase forestry and land use climate mitigation while supporting ecosystem-based adaptation to improve natural resource management and livelihoods, coupled with enhancement of biodiversity. Implementation modality: NIM Type of support: Cross-cutting Technology development/transfer: Yes Contributes to capacity-building objectives.
