About us
Climate finance for Bhutan
The Ministry of Finance coordinates climate finance for Bhutan and serves as the country's National Designated Authority to the Green Climate Fund.
Why it matters
A mountain nation on the front line
Bhutan, a Least Developed Country with a fragile mountain ecosystem, is increasingly experiencing the adverse impacts of climate change in every sector. Turning the country's climate ambitions into reality depends on finance that reaches the right projects and communities.
This portal brings together every climate finance commitment to Bhutan, from multilateral climate funds and development banks to bilateral partners, so that citizens, partners and project teams can see where finance comes from, what it supports and how it is delivered.

The Green Climate Fund
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) was established at the 16th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC in 2011 as an operating entity of the Convention's financial mechanism. Since the adoption of the Paris Agreement in 2015, the Fund has served the Agreement's goal of limiting warming to 1.5 °C.
The Fund promotes low-emission and climate-resilient development through grants, loans, equity or guarantees, based on each country's needs. It pays particular attention to societies that are highly vulnerable to climate change, including Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States.
A key step in turning a country's climate action aspirations into reality is identifying short- and long-term projects, programmes and investment priorities that realise a paradigm shift towards low-emission, climate-resilient development.
